Dr Iris Matsukado

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dr Iris Matsukado graduated from Creighton University with a B.S. in Mathematics and the Illinois College of Optometry where she received her B.S. in Visual Science and Doctor of Optometry.  Her externships included Sidney Hillman in Chicago, IL and Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, IL. Upon completing a residency in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision with an interest in Sports Vision, Dr. Matsukado joined the staff at the Illinois College of Optometry as an Instructor of Optometry.  Her duties included classroom and clinic education in Primary Care, Cornea and Specialty Contact Lenses, as well as assisting in Sports Vision research. 

In 1994, Dr. Matsukado was offered a position working with the Toronto Blue Jays and their farm team in Dunedin and relocated to the Tampa Bay area.  Over the years, adjusting her practice for family reasons, Dr. Matsukado enjoys getting to know her patients in her commercial practices.  Dr. Matsukado has also served as an examiner for the National Board of Optometry and especially enjoys in assisting with vision screenings for the Junior Olympics.

Outside the office, Dr. Matsukado is part of the Mark Pinner Karate Clubs National Tournament Team and has branched out as an AAU coach in Karate.  She also enjoys participating in F.L.A.G. (Fight Like a Girl) women’s self defense classes.
